EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Title: FEDPOFFA
CONNECT; A tool for E-Administration.
Lead
Researcher: Alabi Abdullateef Olatunde
Institution:
The Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State.
Research Outline: This project aims at
providing synergy for system communication which is a predominant problem in
virtually the entire units in most tertiary institutions in Nigeria especially
Federal Polytechnic Offa. It is
established that Nigeria mobile global market has reached 105 million and will
advance to 182 million targets by the end of 2015 (NCC 2015; PUNCH 2013). In developed countries like USA,
Canada, Australia, UK, China and many more has successfully key into web connection in discharging their
academic and other administrative functions and were adopting e-learning and
other mobile application technology subject to their better use of ICT.
Thus, ICT
at the level of implementation is efficiently closing mission-critical
contracts within stakeholders at highest levels, negotiations of strategic
alliances to long time benefits, joint ventures, collaborating or partnering
agreements and all forms of consulting, licensing and development agreements
that will lead to carrier progression (CIO's 2014; Yuvee, Inc.2014). This research
explored ICT and invention of a web and mobile application that suit Nigeria
and is being given the acronym FEDPOFFACONNECT to ameliorate the problems faced
by stakeholders of Federal Polytechnic Offa as higher institution of learning.
FEDPOFFACONNECT
will render services in the area of academic calendar, results status, call for
research and exhibition programs, publication of academic research and
innovative projects, enable interactive chat room among staffs, students,
stakeholders within the system, conduct of exam under control measures, open
tracking of exams schedules and responsibility tracking among staffs via exam
directory, admission information request
and counseling online program, staffs and student advisory programs, freelance
for job opportunities and lastly clearing and forwarding official documents via
secure communication protocols. Mean while, data bank will be established by
direct access to students and staff archive of Federal Polytechnic Offa, to
develop web and mobile application using data request form format and then process
the data collected with Microsoft server, Microsoft access, Excel and
Sequential Query Language (SQL) for
design and development of first prototype. This will be design and develop in
scalable modalities to commensurate with future development in information
technology. Finally, proper guide and documentation will be done on technical
support, system requirement, facility requirement and user requirements and our
finding will be publish to the public media for sharing and patronage of
FEDPOFFA innovative technology.
Statement of the Problem/ Challenges
The
synergy for system communication is a predominant problem in virtually the
entire units in most tertiary institutions of Nigeria especially Federal
Polytechnic Offa. This phenomenon hinders connectivity of the entire system,
equally contributing to in adequate accessibility to facilities that can
develop staff and students carrier. The role of information communication
technology (ICT) has been perceived as a change agent for higher education in Nigeria
and as a media for teaching, learning,
research and deliver services using web connection (Yusuf et-al, 2013).Thus,
ICT usage in higher institutions of Nigeria is still at lower ebb. Any
research in ICT that will help in improving academic and administrative
function and other services will be of a great benefit to the society.
The benefits of the propose technology/application
(FEDPOFFACONNECT) includes; improve communication among staff,
students and also motivate communities to receive trusted and authentic
information without stress from Federal Polytechnic Offa, increase in IGR for
Federal Polytechnic, consider staff and students welfare on easy usage, will
feature accredited users from difference global position system by accrediting
profiles in order to prevent fraud and impersonation acts and provide friendly
platform (web and mobile) to exchange files, review documents, perform
administrative role, managerial roles, academic role, personal interest,
conduct research and development, tracking records, publish of leadership
history in different academic perspective, and disseminate crucial information,
etc. It will give satisfaction to the stake holders.
These will have positive impact on the academic setting of Federal Polytechnic
Offa as well as improving its good image and reputation.
This project proposal means also an increase of the ICT
usage in higher institution to improve administrative functions to satisfy the
academic pursuit of stakeholders which is still low in Nigeria as compared with
developed countries. As mobile and web enhances communication in the world
especially in academic environment, it will certainly improve ICT growth in
higher institutions of Nigeria.
This project helps in bridging the gap in the research domain between Nigeria and
developed countries, by targeting an interdisciplinary research between
Computer Science/Engineering and Estate Management in the new fast-growing
domain of web and mobile connection.
